All our students doing an exchange program or an internship abroad are now safe. They have demonstrated an admirable composure and sense of their responsibilities throughout this crisis.
Leave or stay?
On March 20th, the French Ministry of Education recommended that all students still abroad return urgently to France.
Our International Relations team immediately swang into action. Its staff helped the students and their families make the right choice depending on their situation, providing frequent and individualized information, complementing the updates from local French consular services.
In some instances, returning to France did not seem the safest option: countries who had already closed their borders or put a lockdown in place, countries where trains and planes were stopped, or where direct flights to France were no longer available, possibly forcing students to make multiple stops in highly-contagious transit areas.
We are now expecting the financing institutions (the Erasmus agency, the Ile-de-France region and the Ministry of Education) to provide a fully updated information about the financial support for international mobility in this totally unknown situation. In the meantime, CY Cergy University has already decided to provide an emergency support to the returning students who most struggle financially.
What about next year?
With things as they stand today, we can still reasonably expect that the mobilities of our 3rd year students will take place as initially planned in 2020/2021.
Should the evolution of the sanitary situation not allow this, we are currently working on several scenarios, to ensure that all our 3rd year students get an experience abroad, albeit within a modified calendar and/or complemented by an internship in France.
What about the international students?
International students currently in an exchange program at Sciences Po Saint-Germain have also benefited from an individualized support in their decision to stay in France or return home. Since March 15th, like all our students, they have access to all their lectures and seminars on campus numérique.
Assessments will be done remotely, taking the time differences into account. This way, each one of our incoming exchange students will be able to validate his/her semester of studies. All these measures have been coordinated with our partner universities.
