Studying in France for one or two semesters is a great opportunity to learn the language. That’s why Sciences Po Saint-Germain offers motivated international students a ‘French as a Foreign Language’ class, called FLE (Français Langue Etrangère).
If you plan to learn or improve your French during your exchange program, we encourage you to register to these classes. Depending on your level, you will join a beginner, intermediate or advanced class. Five to six hours each week, 10 weeks per semester, you will study French grammar and vocabulary. You will put your knowledge in practice in role plays and presentations to hone your communication skills in real-life situations. You will discuss social or cultural events, using such material as news articles, interviews, ads etc.
Our FLE teachers come from the Centre de Langue Française (CFE), part of CY Cergy Université, based in Cergy. The CFE is a learning center certified ‘Qualité FLE’, the official label in excellence teaching by the French Ministry of Education. All teachers have a long experience with international students and will introduce you to the French culture and arts and make sure you progress.
Official certifications: DELF and DALF
An official proof of your level in French is a requirement for further studies in France. It can also be a big ‘plus’ when you apply for an internship or a job offer asking for a good command of French.
The official certifications are:
- DELF: Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française – for A1, A2, B1 and B2 on the CECR scale
- DALF: Diplôme Avancé en Langue Française – for C1 and C2 on the CECR scale
Exam sessions are organized by the CFE in Cergy for all levels at the end of each semester.
Preparation for the certifications
The CFE organizes alos weekly preparatory sessions, on Saturdays, in Cergy. Your FLE teachers will give you all the details about the exams, training sessions and extra costs involved.
